Janet Onyenucheya is a songwriter in the Pop-R&B genre. With an education that includes a Bachelors Degree from Berklee College of Music, she has a credibility that few musicians in her genre ever obtain. Janet's unique writing voice is identified by a combination of intellect, catchy hooks, and pop edginess.

Born to a Nigerian father and Liberian mother, Janet was raised in the Bronx and exposed to a variety of music from an early age. Through her ever-changing influences, ranging from Michael Jackson to Hugh Masakela and Beyonce, Janet experimented with different writing styles of both traditional and contemporary music.

At the age of 14, Janet was accepted to the premiere performing arts high school in New York City (Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art and the Performing Arts ). During her senior year, she began performing original compositions in various talent showcases and notable venues such as CBGB's, The Cutting Room, and the Berklee Performance Center. After graduating from LaGuardia, Janet began an internship at Smoking Caterpillar Music Publishing under the guidance of former ASCAP Director, Marcy Drexler. As a songwriter, this proved to be one of her most important career moves because learning to recoginze a "hit song" taught her many techniques that were essential to writing for the contemporary market.

At the conclusion of her internship, Janet was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. It was there that she got the opportunity to study in Athens, Greece, and travel the world. During her stint in Europe, Janet began writing with a funk band and touring the local club scene. She eventually made her way to Italy, Germany, and Switzerland where she heavily involved herself in european pop music.

Janet currently splits her time between New York City and Los Angeles where she is working on new material for upcoming projects in 2009.   She is an active performer, studio musician, arranger, and has worked in music production. Janet's persona embodies the type of voice that is strong, independent, determined, loves to have fun, and always stays fresh.   She is part of a select group of songwriters selected for the 2008 ASCAP Lester Sill Workshop, who is sure to make an impact in '09.
